Question Firefighter Testing Validity and Recommendations

Forum members and readers,

I am currently gathering information on current fire department fitness testing protocols. My masters project, which I am gathering this info for, will discuss:
1. Current tests and rationale behind them.
2. Research based information on what the physiological demands of the fire/paramedic service actually are.
3. Reaffirm reasoning behind current testing, or point out deficiencies.
4. If current testing protocols have any correlation to actual fire/paramedic scenarios.
3. Recommendations for future testing protocols.

I'm sure this project will evolve into its own monster when all is said and done. Any shared info, links, comments and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking all of you in advance,

Matt Mangum

Angry Horse S**T!

So... if these po-dunk fire dept tests weren't bad enough... Sit-up test, flex arm hang, sit & reach, 1 1/2 mile runs... etc. This slap-di*k that ran the test this last weekend decided on the spot to change the 1/4 sprint on a track, to a 4x100 meter shuttle in their parking lot, cuz his little pfhat ass didnt plan ahead... and kept the same time interval of 1:30 sec. Now, I passed the test, so this isnt out of anger, but FIST ME RUNNING if I have another trainler park, mulletted down-syndrome looking slappy running any more fire fighter fitness tests! I'm not saying which fire-dept it was, but it really could have been Sterling Illinois Fire Department.

Grip and R.I.P.

It has a Kettle Bell bias perhaps but you might find it interesting.
