Great Balls of Fire!

by Bert Sorin

One cannot fully get the benefits from stabilization exercises for force production in athletic settings without incorporating Medicine Balls in their workout.

Med balls have tons of uses ranging from injury rehab, conditioning, event-specific technique work to just a good warm-up for heavy power lifting.

The ball brings in the components of strength, power, coordination, speed, tracking ability, balance and aim. The med ball can be used to add resistance to common exercises such as crunches and twists, but also can be used for more complex throwing/catching drills and games.

I attempt to get in at least 2-3 med ball workouts in per week, these are sometimes included and sometimes in addition to my ab/trunk work. The med balls (I use DynaMax) work great when teamed up with the Scorpion Swiss Ball Bench for such exercises as twists, hypers, catch and throw, winding over head, pull overs and many others.

By combining the hand-eye coordination aspect of the med ball, with the kinesthetic or body awareness implemented with the Swiss Ball, you have an endless bank of super, whole body exercises at your finger tips...literally.
