Conversation with Mr. Oerter
by Richard Sorin
Recollections of a conversation with that Olympic great and source of inspiration Al Oerter a few thoughts come to mind. When questioned about the best single exercise he used to develop his power for throwing I received a curious reply.....Heavy cheat curls and negatives on the bench press!
Now, the negatives still have me baffled a bit but the more I use the cheat curl in my workouts I realize its value to work the body as a modified power clean utilizing the specific muscle groups required for the acceleration of objects! He used over 300lb for reps and little wonder why the man was a champion! As a parting comment he said:
"LIFT HEAVY AND CHEAT LIKE HELL!"
