Greatest Leg Strength Exercise
by John T. Thrush
After more than 25 years coaching elite athletes, I have discovered that the most effective leg strength enhancer is the Stop Squat.
Stop Squats are done in the same way as regular high bar Olympic style squats with the added technique of coming to a full stop (One second count) at the bottom and then rising. Attention must be paid to strict form and rigidity in the body at all times.
This exercise will, along with its obvious value for the legs, greatly enhance lower back strength. It also has the added benefit of allowing a great workout with much less loading of the spine. Begin by using a weight approximately 75% of your best regular back squat triple.
