The Only Way

Strength training is most effective when the body perceives the experience to be life threatening. All the internal goods that are responsible for enhanced strength and size (motor unit recruitment, adrenaline and testosterone release, protein synthesis, etc.) are only triggered once the body hits a certain threshold. The bottom line? Begin each workout with an intense, multi-joint movement like the clean and press or power snatch. Every exercise that follows will be twice as effective because the body's already in fourth gear.
