Grip Tips

by Richard Sorin

Almost every sport relies on the ability of the hand to manipulate an object or the transfer body generated power. In order to train the relatively small combined muscle group area comprised of the wrist, hand and forearms, you should consider the following...

Don't overwork with high reps or excessive frequency of workouts. This only encourages short term endurance with long term burnout. I train my grip twice a week usually following bicep work. After a short warm-up period, do 6 to 7 sets of single or double attempts on STRONG nutcracker type handgrips or plate loaded unit. During the week include reverse curls (using no thumbs), thick bar work (i.e. deadlifts, curls, shrugs) to round out your training for this very important area.
