Work Quality

by Steven Plisk

Intensity -- meaning quality rather than quantity of effort -- is the name of the game. You have to do enough work to get a training effect, but there is a threshold of diminishing returns beyond which you begin to dilute your effort and cut into your recoverability / adaptability.

Training intensity, frequency and volume are interrelated and cannot be changed arbitrarily. They must be adjusted together, which occurs automatically if you stick to the plan.

Optimal results are achieved by maximizing your effort within a prescribed amount of work, not by doing extra work or training on off-days. Maximize your gains -- and conserve energy and time -- with aggressive, efficient effort. Use rugged no-nonsense equipment, train with a partner who challenges you, and never sacrifice technique for weight regardless of objective!
