Question:
"Hello Richard. My name is Tim Walczyk and I have been using the Captains of Crush grippers for almost 5 months. I'm 43 and have always been athletic, but have never done any grip work until now. I own the 1, 1.5 and 2 grippers. I wasn't able to close the 1 when I opened it, but was able to close it 5 days later. I practiced with the 1 until I could close it 12 straight times, then I felt ready to order the 1.5 and 2 grippers. I closed the 1.5 out of the packageing the 1st time with each hand. I can get very close to touching the handles on the 2 but still can not do it. I have the book on the Captains of Crush Grippers and how to use them. I've followed Nathan Holle program on page 85 going on 2 weeks. I'm 5'10 and 195lbs. I'm not going to stop until I can touch the handles of the 2, but sometimes I get discouraged while training. I would like to know am I being impatient and rushing things. I know if anyone can tell me it's you. I am pleased with how far I've come in almost 5 months, and I have alot of fun training. Thank you for your time Richard. I also enjoy the pictures you have on your website, it's well done. Thank you, Tim Walczyk Lindenhurst, IL."

Answer:
Tim, Don't do many reps (over 4) and don't grip heavy over 2 times per week with perhaps a medium technique day. Use and get used to a credit card set and pay attention to proper gripper placement. Work all areas of grip not just crushing, work the thumb! ,IT is HALF of your grip. Keep workouts short and intense. When going for a record squeeze. try one level above your goal( squeeze hard) then within 45 seconds go for your goal gripper( and see what happens!)! Do deloading work with rubber bands in the hand opening opposite direction on your off days. Massage and epsom salt baths will help recovery. Train hard BUT train smart...guys that train till they bleed or do endless reps just wind up with sore, tired hands. Good luck! Richard
