GPP ?± Getting into Lifting Shape
by Todd Shook, CSCS
I was working out in the gym the other day and talked with Bert and Richard Sorin about working out in general. Bert invited me to post something on the training tips section on their website. At first I didn't know what to write but then I thought about my recent progress and came up with something that was the key.
That key is GPP or General Physical Preparedness. As Louie Simmons likes to say, "Drag your butt into shape"
If you have access to a dragging sled (http://store.sorinex.com/Reversa_Sled_p/rs-1.htm), use it. This will improve weak body parts and increase your general conditioning and lung capacity so that your workouts in the gym will be a breeze. I had never used a dragging sled (http://store.sorinex.com/Reversa_Sled_p/rs-1.htm) until I started training for strongman competitions. The first time I did it I almost puked! I hated it. But after numerous sessions I was in my best shape since college.
I pull the sled (http://store.sorinex.com/Reversa_Sled_p/rs-1.htm) about twice a week when training for a competition and about once a week in the off season. I even purchased my own for use in the neighborhood. In my first Strongman contest I was in great condition to handle the heat and humidity on the day of the contest.
The point being, pull the sled (http://store.sorinex.com/Reversa_Sled_p/rs-1.htm) for better physical conditioning and your numbers will increase.
