I thought of something the other day as I watched a tv show about firemen....when the bell rings they have to literally jump into their pre set out heavy canvas pants and with a quick straight armed standing motion the pants are up and ready to go......... I thought about how many young lifters are SO confused by the intricacies of the clean pull as being something totally foreign to them. BUT EVERYONE can pull their pants up! So, we have the new lifter sit on a small stool, grasp a loop of heavy rope or even baggy pants that is down around their feet and on "signal" stand up. They must naturally push their knees back for the pants to clear their knees and since the rope/pants is close around their body they keep their hands close to their body. Most do it nearly right the first time! IF you don't say anything about this is a "clean pull". Once they get it "smooth" then we tell them do it "fast"......After a short period replace the pants with a barbell and there you have it...IT works almost EVERY time! Everyone laughed when I brought this idea out.........but, not any more! RS
