The Big Squeeze
by Dr. Ken Leistner
On Thursday , I received the new Big Squeeze ""fat"" handled dumbbells from Sorinex. These are not "thick handled dumbbells" but truly fat handled!
I left them in my garage to try out the next day. Early in the morning, I ruined my grip for the rest of the day as I experimented with different grips and movements.
One of my trainees is Stephen Boyd, All Pro inside linebacker for the Detroit Lions. Stephen was named to the Pro Bowl this year as well as the All Madden team and loves to do forearm work. Richard Sorin has been one of his "grip idols" and knowing how important grip and hand strength is to his profession, he is always looking for new an unique ways to stimulate this aspect of development.
He spied the Big Squeeze dumbbells, his eyes lit up, and he said, "Oh Doc, these are great!" and this was said even before picking them up. After the workout, he "toyed" with them and made the announcement, "Doc, you know I will be gone for the next two weeks, in Detroit for team workouts. Uh, I can take these with me, right?" He explained that he "had to have these," that "Bert (Hill, the Lions' Strength Coach) is going to love these" and that he intended to do these enough so that when he returned in this two week period, "you'll see Doc, my forearms are going to be even bigger!"
That's how effective and exciting Mr Boyd found these new dumbbell handles.
I would like to thank Sorinex for getting these to me so quickly, event though we won't be able to use them for the next two weeks. Yes, could I say no to an All Madden guy who insisted that this latest Sorinex development accompany him to Detroit?
